Robert B. Mitchell was born in Chicago and raised in suburban Wilmette. He graduated from Grinnell College in 1980, where he majored in history and political science. Since graduating from college, he has worked in the newspaper business as a reporter and editor and today is an assistant editor with the Los Angeles Times-Washington Post News Service. Mitchell lives in Woodbridge, Va.
He is the author of “Untamed Greenbacker: James Baird Weaver,” and “Get Ready for ’96: The Decatur County Press, Partisanship and the Presidential Campaign of 1896,” for Iowa Heritage Illustrated.
Skirmisher: The Life, Times, and Political Career of James B. Weaver is the first full-length biography of Weaver published since 1919. Weaver served three terms in Congress and ran twice for president, once as the nominee of the Greenback-Labor Party in 1880 and again as the Populist nominee in 1892, when he carried four states.
