Dana Adams Story
Dana Adams Story, the grandson of Philip Tyler Adams, was the author of several books on the history of Essex, Massachusetts, and its shipbuilding industry, including The Shipbuilders of Essex, Building the Blackfish, and The Building of a Wooden Ship. His family were shipbuilders and Dana inherited the business in 1945 -- the fifth generation in a long line of craftsmen -- continuing to build small vessels and pleasure craft.
Happily retired, Dana and his wife Margaret live a quiet but active life in Essex, overseeing the local shipbuilding museum and participating in community affairs.
The surprise discovery of his grandfather’s diaries led to this book, his only on a subject other than shipbuilding.
Mr. Story died in February 2005.
